Hi all,

Hope you can help. I have got a Retrode 2 which I want to connect my official N64 controllers in order to play my N64 games. I have purchased the N64 plugin for the Retrode 2 but cannot find any ports to support the N64 controllers on the N64 plugin. I thought there were ports on the N64 plugin to support N64 controllers? Is there any other way in order for me to connect my N64 controllers to my Retrode 2? Your help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

RocknRollTim

You can get an N64 controller extension cable and cut it.  Solder the wires to the plugin PCB.  You'll need to also solder 220R resistors onto the board.

Another option, if you don't feel comfortable modifying your N64 plugin or want to connect more than two N64 controllers, is to buy a Mayflash N64 Controller Adapter like this:

New Nintendo 64 Controller Adapter for PC Mac Dual USB to N64 Mayflash 2 Port

That eBay listing has them for $16.50 US with free worldwide shipping and mine works beautifully on my Linux machine. (I bought a Retrode when they still had a ready supply of N64 controller connectors to pre-install, but I like to keep my Retrode disconnected and boxed up when I'm not actually dumping ROMs, so I use the Mayflash for day-to-day play instead.)

If the seller stops re-listing it, you're looking for a Mayflash-branded USB-to-N64 controller adapter in a blister pack with a white and spring-green cardboard back. The adapter itself is black, with two N64 connectors side-by-side on the front and a USB cable out the back. I can take a photo of mine if that's not enough.

Hi ssokolow,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you and thank you for responding to my forum thread, I don't know why I didn't get a notification email in my inbox as I set up the forum thread to send email notifications as soon as new posts are  uploaded.

In the end I took your advice and bought the Mayflash N64 Controller Adapter you advised but off Amazon.

Thank you for all your help.

Regards,

Huh. I have the opposite problem. It sends me a weekly digest whether or not there's actually anything to report in the threads I'm watching.

Hi ssokolow,

It couldn't be to do with the fact that I am using Hotmail could it? I have had a lot of problems with Hotmail totally blocking notifications for forums as well as promotional offers from Steam and have had to use my Gmail account instead to get round this type problem.

RocknRollTim

P.S. I have found another N64 controller adapter that supports rumble pak output and that is the Raphnet N64 to USB v3 which I also purchased a few months ago.

It's possible. I switched away from Hotmail when GMail came out and, as far as I know, Microsoft eventually deleted my old Hotmail account after I refused to give in to their demands that I pair up an SMS-capable phone number to regain access.

(Even if I did have a mobile number, which I don't by choice, I refuse to be coerced into giving sites the "one ID that lets them tie together all my different identities" that has prompted this push toward two-factor authentication requiring a mobile number.)

I'm sure I've never given Microsoft a phone number and I'm still using hotmail.
Well, I have installed the Hotmail app on my phone though I don't know if that gives them access to my number. Still, that was only several months ago. After years of continuing to tell them and everyone else "maybe later". :P
