Title: Mortal Kombat 2 Mega Drive odd ROM format
Post by: MegaLoManiac on 16/Jun/2013 06:20:55 AM
Hi All,

Just got my Retrode and doing a big dump (of games) to my Mac.  No problems yet... except with Mortal Kombat 2.
The ROM shows up on the Retrode as GenericRomInSegaSlot.dat
Kega Fusion wouldn't open it so I renamed it MortalKombat2.bin and while it opened it wouldn't load.
Anyone else seen this?

Usually it just means the game didn't read properly. Try cleaning it and plugging it in again.

Use cotton swabs, rubbing alcohol, and clean thoroughly. Wait 10 minutes, then try it.

I'd also guess dirt.

Title: Not reading properly after cleaning

Extra cleaning worked.  :D  Spent the whole weekend cleaning, copying and testing every single Mega Drive game I own.

BUT there are 3 games that will not work.  I've cleaned/tried to copy each one four times.

Man Overboard - file comes up as SSLucifer.9342.bin - 131KB
Super Skidmarks - file comes up as GenericRomInSegaSlot.dat - 4MB
Outlander - file comes up as NoNameNder.A5CE.bin - 1MB

Strangely, the Outlander file actually loads up, goes past the "Mindscape" screen and then the title music plays over a blank screen.

All games are working fine on my Mega Drive.

Is there anything else I can try?
