I've tried it on two computers (one with Windows 7, one with Windows Vista) and I've also tried a different USB cable than the one supplied, but the OS was unable to detect the Retrode 2 and the driver installation would fail. Also tried it with various game carts (cleaned with isopropyl alcohol beforehand). If it matters, the Retrode 2 was a recent purchase.

Any idea what the problem is? Perhaps it is possible to download the specific drivers somewhere and manually install it? I haven't gone the firmware updating route yet.

Yes, I know what the issue is, sorry in advance!
We are updating the Retrodes to the latest firmware version before we ship it.
One of out trainees did it - and forgot to load the firmware, so these units had the firmware actually removed...
Unfortunately, I didn't realize that until some customers reported that, so there are at least 10 units that had been shipped out without a firmware.

We got some back and fixed them with reflashing, some customers did it themselves and that also fixed the units.

So to fix them, you can either send it back (we'll cover the shipping) or try to flash it yourself.

Instructions are here:
http://www.retrode.org/documentation/firmware/

Basically:
1. Install FLIP software. Inside the directory where it was installed, you can find the USB drivers.
2. Press BOTH buttons on the Retrode, plug it into the PC. Then let go of the back button, then of the front button. Tell Windows to use the FLIP drivers for the USB connection.
3. Run the FLIP software, load the firmware (you can get that from the homepage as well, I suggest to use the latest one), open the USB connection and Flash the firmware.

When it's done, unplug and replug it and it should work fine.

I'm sorry for the issues!

I guess I got unlucky this time huh? I installed the firmware and everything is now working as it should. Thanks, buddy.
