Hi, my name is ReadOnly

I have been for a while maintaining a list called software list for the emulator MESS (sister project of MAME), more precisely the snes list.

While the US and JP set will be mostly covered (for more than 90%) I am having difficulties finding European contributors. Yes the PAL set is easily the most under documented out there. I thought maybe this could be a good place to find fresh new talents.

How to contribute : by dumping your pal cartridges and posting the hash logs of course but that alone is unfortunately very insufficient, the cartridge PCB scan is also required in your submission as a plain dump is of not much use by itself nowadays (unless it was never been dumped before). You will need a nintendo security bit screwdriver, you can get them for very cheap on amazon (~2.50$) and a good scanner or a good device to make hi resolution pictures.

I have already had the collaboration of a lot of great people in Europe, unfortunately nowhere enough to cover even one third of the pal set. I have myself dumped over a thousand cartridges, I can't tell you how much exactly because I stopped counting long ago. So if you need technical tips, I can probably help, having a lot of experience.

See you soon

I second that request as a no-intro member. I already posted in another thread but this will possibly gain more attention.

A hash is still valuable to confirm the data available. So even if it is not possible to do scans as stated above and redump info is still better than nothing at all for our needs. Thanks in advance.

Apparently not. Shame on you fellow European folks, when did we become more selfish than Americans ans Asians? Shall our set remain the most under-documented?  :-\

not retrode related, but i considered doing softlists from the stuff in my website database, which is mainly optical based systems, but the mame/mess crew (outside of one) seemed to have no desire to work with us.

edit:  also, sorry all my snes are USA titles.
The goal of database.trurip.org is to catalogue the software of as many classic systems as possible. database.trurip.org does not and will never host ISO or ROM downloads

I don't use MESS because it's rubbish. It's rubbish because nobody uses it. This is how things like this happen ;)

Shame right back at you... for choosing a forum with less than 150 members and wondering why nobody cheerfully volunteers to work for you :)

They work not for me, they work for History. There was never any personal gain in any way or form in there for me, other than the satisfaction of contributing to documentation which matters for a lot of people.

People who made a significant contribution have been credited.
