Retro Freak Gear Converter Compatibility

Can anyone confirm if the retro freak gear convertor ( http://www.play-asia.com/retro-freak-gear-converter-for-game-gear-sega-mark-iii-sg-1000-/13/709flf ) works in the genesis slot of the retrode2?

Got the Retron5 3-in-1 adapter ( https://www.amazon.com/Hyperkin-RetroN-Adapter-Game-Master-System/dp/B01NCX3KIO ) and used it with the retrode and it sometimes blinks red when i insert or remove a game gear cart, so the retrode does so of senses it (i was using an older firmware). but unfortunately it only produces a "generic-rom-in-slot" that doesn't run. Is there anyway to update the retrode firmware to be compatible with this device?
