Emulators & Netplay

Hello now that I have my retrode and have copied almost my entire game collection I am now turning my attention to what I can do with them. I have several emulators already and I have noticed many of them have a feature called Net play which is supposed to be able to enable online multiplayer by connecting and synchronizing two people's emulators. I do not download ROMs (as that would be illegal) so I have been unable to tinker with this before.

That said... I was wondering if anyone else here would mind sharing their experience on the following questions regarding Netplay:

What emulators/versions of said emulators do you find to have the most stable Netplay?
Where should I go to look for/set up matches?
About how stable (on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being unplayable and 10 being perfect) would you say the matches are?
Is there any other information pertaining to Netplay I may find useful?

I do not limit my emulation to just cartridge based systems so please do include information regarding Netplay for any system.

In addition to this it has come to my attention that there are still games for both the Sega Saturn and the Sega Dreamcast that can still be played online. Are there any emulators/versions of emulators which can support this connectivity (example: emulating the Dreamcast's Broadband or Dialup modems)?

I'm aware of hold old this post is, but considering there was no information listed, I figured I could at least put my knowledge of SNES emulators and netplay in case anyone else comes here needing to know how to get it to work.

I have gotten consistent success regarding using ZSnes for netplay.  However, it can't be the most recent edition of ZSnes.  Only version 1.42 will work properly, more or less.  Sometimes it takes a little fiddling to get it to work correctly.  If anyone wants, I can write out a full guide detailing how to use ZSnes in conjunction with another program like Tunngle or Hamachi to get a more stable and efficient connection.  This lets you use the UDP instead of TCP option, which gives a faster, more stable connection, making faster paced games such as Kirby Super Star or Street Fighter 2 more precise and less laggy.  I'll probably write out a full guide anyway when I get home from work because I have nothing better to do.

A guide is always welcomed, thank you.

I went ahead and made a guide but I made it a separate thread because I plan on going into much more detail than just the netplay aspect.  http://forum.retrode.org/index.php/topic,227.0.html

Thank you for the info. I found it very helpful. I realise the post has aged a bit, but I am still seeking what ever information I can find on the subject of getting my games to play online. Be it via Netplay or if they ever get that broadband adaptor emulation working on Null DC. It would be great to be able to play these games without the hassle of trying to organize a gathering for local multiplayer.
