Windows 10 won't accept FLIP drivers

While attempting to update my Retrode, I've made it to the part where I have to install the FLIP drivers. Step by step, I go to Device Manger, right click on the Unknown device, select "Update Driver Software", browse my computer, let me pick from a list of drivers, "Have Disk", and then I navigate to the "usb" folder where I have FLIP installed. It wants me to select a .inf file, and I select the only one in the usb folder ("amtel_usb_dfu") and it gives me the message: "The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems." I don't know what to do from here. Could someone help me with this?

Are you using the latest version, FLIP 3.4.7? (Probably.)

The FLIP download page lists Windows 8 as compatible, but Windows 10 is not mentioned. Hard to guess if MS managed to break it... At least it looks to me that FLIP 3.4.7 does provide x64 drivers.

I found a post saying that you have to check the "Include Subfolders" option when browsing for the driver:

5.) Select Browse my computer for driver software
6.) Browse to where you installed Flip
7.) Make sure Include Subfolders is checked
8.) Click Next
...

That sounds to me like you shouldn't have to click all the way to the inf file, but instead Windows should find the inf file itself as soon as you select FLIP's folder. It would make sense, since the inf file and the driver files are in different subfolders.

If you just don't get it to run on Windows 10, could you use a VM with Windows XP or 7, for example? Or a friend's computer?

Booting Linux from CD or USB (and using dfu-programmer there) also comes to mind, but I've heard about serious issues when running Linux on UEFI BIOS PCs, so you'll have to be careful and inform yourself before trying that.
It's been quite a few years since I last used Linux, and my good old PC here has an old-fashioned BIOS.

As long as you use a recent distro (e.g. Fedora, Ubuntu) that's actively maintained, you shouldn't have any trouble with a UEFI system. Linux has to support modern hardware to boot on current machines, too, and there are people who use Linux as their primary OS, after all. ;) I'm able to boot Clonezilla on my UEFI system, and it's just a stripped-down Linux OS designed for one purpose (backups).

I downloaded the version of FLIP from the install firmware page on the firmware guide on the Retrode website. However, I think I'm going to use Linux to update it, I'll boot that up and use it to update my Retrode. Thanks for the help! If there is anymore information though that could be useful, feel free to reply with it though.

I think the FLIP version from the Retrode website is up to date.
Did you try the "Include Subfolders" option?

Can confirm. Win 10 user here. Retrode 2 will show up as "AT90USB64". Flip 3.4.7 won't open the device. Had to use a Win Vista laptop, worked like a charm. Successfuly updated from 0.18d to 0.19_beta.

Cheers.
